Balkan Green Foundation and EDEN Center, through the EU-funded cross-border project, Green Cross, implemented in Albania, (Has Municipality) and Kosovo (Municipality of Klina), have commenced important infrastructural investments within the energy efficiency and renewable energy domain.
In line with the project’s objective to further pursuits to a cleaner energy mix and green economy, the investments will bear a design and implementation that produces a self-sustained financial scheme to influence and incentivize multiplicative societal actions on the initiation of structural, intelligent/smart transformation of the municipalities.
The investments entail the equipping of public buildings in the Municipality of Klina and Has with solar panels for energy saving, LED indoor and outdoor lamps, solar thermal devices, and other energy efficiency devices for energy conservation and contribution to a healthier environment as well as improvement of the livelihoods of the local population. More particularly, in the Klina municipality 70 kW Solar panels and inverters, 15 kW solar thermal heaters, 5 water heaters, 800 indoor LED lights, 15 outdoor LED lights, one water tank, and 30 x 1.1 m3 waste bins, while Has Municipality 18 kW Solar panels for Has, 18 inverters and 18 batteries, 650 indoor LED lights, 220 Outdoor lights and 100 x 1.1 m3 waste bins.
An important output is that municipal energy costs are expected to be decreased by at least 30%, which will allow for a better and more efficient allocation of municipal money. Has municipality has already received 220 Outdoor LED lights, and 650 indoor lights replacing the inefficient light bulbs and decreasing the electricity costs for the municipality. While the solar panels and other devices have not yet been installed in Klina and in Has municipality and are foreseen to be completed this year.
Through this project, twinning Green Action Plans aligned with EU standards and coordinated for the sharing of the same transboundary vision will be released. These Green Smart Investments Action Plans have been drafted. During 2021, the Action Plans will be put for voting in the municipal assembly, and this will enable the Action Plan to become local policy and enter into force. Thus, accelerating the sustainable development of Has and Klina Municipalities.
The project is being implemented by Balkan Green Foundation (as the lead partner, based in Kosovo), EDEN Center (Albania), and the municipalities of Has in Albania, and Kline in Kosovo.
