Balkan Green Foundation awards two grants for projects in the field of renewable energy

23 January 2020

Balkan Green Foundation in the frame of the "Multi Actor Partnership" project, in partnership with Germanwatch, has awarded two medium-sized grants worth 30,000 euros for the implementation of two model renewable energy projects, specifically in solar energy.

NGO ‘Sythi’ and the farmers' cooperative ‘Bio Agro Tech.K.B.’ have been awarded as the recipients of these two medium grants that will start implementing their projects through 2020 in the fields of solar energy, the generation of energy from sustainable and renewable sources, as well as in the field of energy efficiency, through equipment that uses solar energy to dry agricultural products.

These two projects - known as 'lighthouse projects' or model projects - are intended to show that an energy transition in Kosovo is possible and that the potential to utilize small scale renewable energy is feasible. These projects also aim to show that the energy transition is possible, bringing tangible and valuable results be it in economic, social or environmental aspects. This, combined with the fact that it has been shown practically that using the unlimitied renewable energy potential is something real, with practical benefits but most of all replicable.

These two grants were awarded under the MAP - Multi Actor Partnership project for an Energy Transition in Kosovo, an inter-institutional project with key actors of the energy system, which aims to accelerate the energy transition in Kosovo and help strengthen the path of decarbonisation and increase the country's renewable energy capacities.

This project is implemented by the Balkan Green Foundation and Germanwatch, supported by Global Engagement and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
